Bosch Lumber represents a legacy of giving

DICKINSON, ND – Sixty three years ago Bosch Lumber was founded by the late Joe R. Bosch in Dunn Center, N.D. He ran a successful business both there and in Killdeer prior to bringing Bosch Lumber to Dickinson, where his sons have since enhanced and grown the business.

Through two-thirds of a century, Bosch Lumber, now in its third generation, has been very supportive of Dickinson State University and a host of charities in the surrounding region. This past December, Joel Bosch and his wife Cindy ‘88, Paul Bosch and his wife Jackie, and Jim and Claudia ’61 Bosch, Joe’s sons, gifted four apartment buildings on Foster Drive in Dickinson to the DSU Foundation through a deferred gift annuity.

“We recognize the importance of Dickinson State University to our community and to our business,” said Joel Bosch, co-owner of Bosch Lumber along with his brother Paul. “It is essential that businesses in the area and citizens too, support the region’s most important industry, which in this case, is education.”
This gift is a win-win situation for both the DSU Foundation and the Bosch families. The DSU Foundation receives immediate income producing assets that assist in meeting funding needs and enhancing the student learning environment at DSU. The Bosch families receive income back from the Foundation for a period of years as defined by the gift annuity agreements. In addition, the Bosch families receive tax benefits by gifting a highly appreciated asset to the DSU Foundation; bypassing capital gain taxes and making a tax deductible gift.

“The Bosch families, DSU and the DSU Foundation have developed a wonderful working relationship throughout each entities history,” said Kevin J. Thompson, C.E.O of the DSU Alumni and Foundation. “We are very pleased with this latest gift that allows the Foundation to grow to new heights.”

Jackie Bosch is currently a member of the Foundation board and the Yuletyme committee, which is an event that her husband Paul also contributes a lot of time to. Joel is a past president of the Blue Hawk Booster Club and a member of the Badlands Activities Center Steering Committee. Jim and Claudia continue to support the University by attending events and activities throughout the year.

The gift of the apartment buildings is just another demonstration of the generosity of the Bosch family that began with their father Joe. In addition to their personal and corporate gifting, each family member encourages others in the community to give of their time, talents, and treasures to Dickinson State University and to other charities in the region.
