Magstadt on of 6 new DSU track recruits

Dickinson State track and field coach Pete Stanton said Tuesday he has received letters of intent from three Dickinson standouts, one of North Dakota’s top Class B athletes and two of Class A’s top jumpers.

Dickinson High graduates Calen Beaudoin and Nathan Magstadt, and Dickinson Trinity graduate Melissa Bachamp will compete for the Blue Hawks next year.

Also joining the Blue Hawks will be Langdon’s Jon Dinius, Class B’s senior athlete of the year, and Bismarck Century graduates Jordan Buechler and Taylor Stein.

Dinius, Magstadt and Stein all won state championships last May.

Magstadt won the Class A boys 110-meter hurdles (14.96 seconds) and 300 hurdles (38.77) titles. He was also earned all-state honors in the 800 and 1,600 relays.

“We are very pleased that Nathan has joined our track program,” Stanton said. “He had a strong senior season, winning both hurdles (titles) at the state meet with very good times. He is a great competitor who I feel will continue to work hard and have his best years ahead of him.”

    Beaudoin was a member of Dickinson’s all-state 400, 800 and 1,600 relay teams.

Bachamp was the Class B state runner-up in the pole vault, jumping 9 feet, 6 inches at the state meet. She came up 3 inches short of a state title. Her personal best jump is 10-1.

“Melissa has been solid the past two years in her vaulting,” Stanton said. “We feel she can come in and be very competitive in the DAC and add a lot to our women’s program.”

Dinius won the 100 (11.52), 200 (22.68), helped his team win the 400 relay (44.26) and was on Langdon-Munich’s fourth-place 800 relay team.

Dinius and Beaudoin both plan to play football.

“To get a quality player like Jon from the east side of the state was a big plus for both of our programs,” Stanton said.

Dinius helped Langdon finish as the Class A state runner-up in football. An all-state first team running back, he rushed for 2,945 yards and 22 touchdowns while averaging 7.9 yards per carry.

Stein won the Class A triple jump championship with a leap of 43-4½ and was third in the high jump. Buechler was the state runner-up in the pole vault, reach 14-6 at the state meet.

“They’re just hitting their strides, as far as their potential, of what they can do when they get into college,” Stanton said.
